Established in October 2019, the National Nanfan Research Institute (NNRI) of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) is a new-model research institution dedicated to Nanfan breeding, seed industry innovation, and technical services. Anchored in the national food security strategy, NNRI focuses on fundamental scientific questions in agriculture and cutting-edge breeding technologies. It is committed to building an innovation system for modern biological breeding and establishing a full-chain R&D system of “theoretical foundation – breeding technologies – product development – results transfer,” thereby serving as the core scientific force behind the development of the Nanfan Silicon Valley. NNRI hosts several high-level platforms, including the Key Laboratory of Gene Editing Innovation and Utilization of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (Hainan), the Academician Workstation of Hainan Province, and a Postdoctoral Research Workstation. It also houses 4 international collaboration platforms such as the Sanya Office, CAASTIA Secretariat CHINA. NNRI has successfully recruited Prof. FELIX DAPARE DAKORA, a Foreign Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and established 37 innovative research teams and one academician workstation, comprising 141 high-level professionals. A total of 577 graduate students have been trained under the Hainan Special Talent Program. To date, NNRI has been presided over 416 projects including the National Key R&D Programs.
