Institute of Grassland Research (IGR) of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) was established in 1963, which is the sole national grassland research institute, and the sole bureau-director level research institute in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia. It is also the sole research institute established in border areas with mainly ethnic minority populations by CAAS. IGR-CAAS had Li Bo academician, who was the first academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in the grassland field. IGR-CAAS has won the first National Prize for Progress in Science and Technology in grassland field, and has established the Chinese Journal of Grassland, which is the first professional journal in this field. It is an advanced world-wide known grassland research institute with strong research foundation, platforms and disciplines. There are over 180 employees, including 176 technologists, 76 senior titles, 161 employees with master or PhD degree. IGR-CAAS has master and PhD degree-authorizing points in disciplines of Grassland Science, Ecology, and Agricultural Entomology and Pest Control. It also has mobile post-doctoral research stations for two First-level Disciplines of Grassland Science and Ecology. The institute has 42 supervisors, including 13 PhD supervisors.
