Institute of Agricultural Economics and Development, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences Established in 1958, the Institute of Agricultural Economics and Development (IAED) under the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) is one of the earliest national public research institutes dedicated to agricultural economics and rural development following the founding of the People's Republic of China. It is the only research institute within CAAS that focuses primarily on soft science research. Entrusted with the mission of supporting comprehensive rural revitalization, IAED plays a leading role in conducting strategic studies across the academy and advancing the transition from research centered on "agriculture" to one encompassing the broader spectrum of "agriculture, rural areas, and farmers" ("three rural issues"). The Institute's core mission is to conduct fundamental, public-interest, forward-looking, and strategic research on major issues related to the development of the agricultural and rural economy and society. It provides evidence-based policy recommendations to the CPC Central Committee, the State Council, and relevant ministries, delivers technical consulting and advisory services to local governments and agribusinesses, cultivates high-level professionals in the field of agricultural economics, and engages in academic exchange and cooperation domestically and internationally.
